This is pretty disgusting and extremely bizarre. This old lady used to be a geisha and she’s showing off what a life time of wearing shoes that are too small will do to you.
These women displayed true beauty. Women today should take a lesson on how important it is to cater to every whim of their man, even if it causes a little discomfort.
What kind of man would ever think that this is sexy?? I have read many books that touched on this, but have never seen such extreme photos-thanks for sharing (i guess). Small disfigured feet aren’t sexy!!
please, I don’t want to be rude, but this woman was never a geisha for she is chinese!!! Geisha are Japanese and never wear this kind of shoe!!! But wear okobo which is not too small for them, but only the high shoes buttom is small, so please do something about to change what you write or if you don’t know, ask someone or use the net for resurch, Thanks, V
These are some amazing photographs. Thank you so much for posting them.
I’m not going to repeat others’ corrections, but they’re right. This is footbinding. It starts when the women are young girls – I believe at age five or so.
Nu – I think that’s right on the mark. We may look at this woman’s feet as a, if I may say ‘grotesque’ form of body modification, but what will future generations think of tummy tucks, lipo, face lifts, breast augmentation and botox? After all, Botox is a paralyzing toxin derived from jellyfish!
While perhaps not a debilitating disfigurement – it is difficult for those with bound feet to walk – is what women in the USA currently do to alter their bodies, comparable to other body modifications to fit a social standard of beauty?
Lurline Pickles – I hope that remark was meant to be sarcastic, because catering to the whims of your man is, among other things, not comparable to footbinding.
Kaylen – Beauty is a socially defined standard. It doesn’t make sense to us in the USA (I’ll assume that’s where you’re from) because we’re of a different culture and generation.
Again, thanks for posting these great photos and I’ll be sure to check on this site again!
Geisha were from Japan and foot binding was Chinese.
just sayin’
Thanks for making me look stupid Laura
Turns out the info I got wasn’t too reliable
Yes, change your headline. This is not a geisha. Geisha do not bind their feet. Never have. This innaccuracy is really annoying. Chinese footbinding.

so fucking disgusting
I wonder if people generations from now will question why people undergo crazy surgeries to make themselves more aesthetically appealing.
Good web site, thanks.. Happy Ramadan for everyone..
