Who is Wonder Woman?
There has been talk of a Wonder Woman movie for quite some time now. I’ve never seen the Wonder Woman television series with Lynda Carter or read one of the comic books, so I thought I’d check it out.
Wonder Woman is Princess Diana of the Amazon warrior tribe. She was awarded several gifts by the Olympian gods, including the Lasso of Truth (created from the Golden Girdle of Gaea) and indestructible bracelets/gauntlets (formed from the shield Aegis).
From what I can tell Wonder Woman is the object of affection for many comic book fans and for those who loved the old TV show. There is plenty of fan work out there, like these Wonder Woman desktop wallpapers.
And of course with a lot of fans comes a lot of videos too, like this from G4TV.
Wonder Woman – A Life Of Fighting Crime
In terms of movie news not much is happening at all. Director Joss Whedon (Serenity) has pulled out, there is no completed script and no cast. So when can we expect to see the Wonder Woman movie? According to IMDB, not until 2009.
A likely reason for this is that they really want to get it right. There are two major comic book companies, Marvel and DC. Marvel have had big hits with the X-Men movies, Spider-Man, even though it was horrible The Fantastic Four and a lot in the works. All DC have done was a really bad Superman movie and a bunch of extremely bad Batman movies until Batman Begins came along.
One important aspect to getting it right and making a fantastic movie is the correct casting for Wonder Woman. Way back in 2001 Mariah Carey, Sandra Bullock, and Catherine Zeta-Jones were up for the role. In 2005 Charisma Carpenter, Morena Baccarin, and Sophia Bush were names being thrown around. More recently names like Taylor Cole, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale have been thrown into the mix.
Straight away they can cross Mariah Carey off the list, that’s just crazy. Sandra Bullock, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Charisma Carpenter, Jessica Biel and Morena Baccarin don’t really fit the mold of my idea of Wonder Woman.
Which leaves Sophia Bush, Taylor Cole and Kate Beckinsale. Not know who the first two are, I’d have to take Kate Beckinsale. She’s tough, not a bad actress and looks hot as Wonder Woman.

So, who do you think would be the perfect fit to wear the Golden Bracelets and Lasso of Truth?
I love seeing Jessica Biel in anything! She gets my vote for sure!!!
She’s FOXY!
I have to argue with the Jessica Biel vote. Yes she’s hot and has a killer body, but I just can’t see her in this role.
In Blade Trinity Jessica Biel did okay during the action scenes, but for me she didn’t flow with it and it felt very rehearsed.
I went for Kate Beckinsale because she is also hot and does better with the action scenes.
I don’t think that Kate Beckinsale is the perfect fit, but I can’t think of anyone better.
Wonder Woman friggen rocks man!!! Ive loved that sexy sexy princess for sooo long!!!
I don’t care who stars in the movie I just want to see it!
i vote for kate beckinsale do it, van helsing was good, underwolrd not bad, but on ww she keeeps the looks of the original serie and the comic book, so the hit of see a girl some different is not that repulsive than others remakes, also remember people, she is HOT, already said upper, if wonder woman isnt hot there is no wonder woman, furthermore wonder woman is a utopy and shall not be mistakes on the selection, may cause permanent damage to the brain of the poeple who grown up with it.
WHY has no-one mentioned Catherine Zeta Jones yet!!? Take a good look at the wonder woman picks above, with the 7 versions of the old gal…now look UP and take a good look at her FACE! It even looks like they modelled it on her!! I dont think Miss Biel could do this role..as she’s rubbish in everything shes in (particularly Blade) beckinsale a good suggestion but Charisma Carpenter has got the talent and the right figure and body type..as shallow as it is,that is what often makes or breaks a comic film actor. For example:Brandon Rooth..the gut just isnt built enough! The Late n Great Christopher Reeves build was much better suited with his broad frame and shoulders. Mr.Rooth is not much better than being a lanky guy that got his ass down the gym!
We should stick to the main thing about wonder woman! TALL,VERY BEAUTIFUL,BLUE EYES & DARKBROWN HAIR……Just like Lynda Carter@Miss world USA 1973! The most suitable candidate would be Natalie Glebova@Miss Universe 2005 who resembles lynda carter the most! Shes 5′11. We wouldn’t wanna dissapoint our fans of wonder woman now would we?
Stay to the concept of true wonder woman! Munchas grasias! haha. : )
how about a brunette stacey keibler…she’s got the height, looks, legs, and she “wrestled,” so she should be pretty good w/the acting…..=)
If she had acting talent, Erin Ellington has the right build.
I hadn’t heard of Erin Ellington before, so I checked her out.
Beautiful face, great body except her enhance bosoms would probably count her out.
I agree with Lynda Carter. When asked this question on Good Morning America she responded, “She would have to be a physically acceptional woman with a good heart to portray Wonder Woman with sincerity and genuineness. Basiclly an unknown at this time.”
I think that is what they tried to do with Superman Returns and it failed miserably.
Of course there is only so much an actor can do with a terrible script.
any thoughts of elisha cuthbert? coz shes hot..
I voted for Kate Beckinsale because she has the looks and the athletic ability, however, I don’t think she is the “perfect fit”. Why isn’t Sandra Bullock up there? She could pull it off!
I don’t think Sandra Bullock can pull off a action role.
The closest she has come before is Speed and Speed 2. Speed Sandra did pretty much nothing, and we all know how good Speed 2 was.
I still believe that Megan Gale should portray Wonder Woman, if not in the JL film, then at least in the WW movie. She’s just too good a choice to throw away now that the JL film is on hold…yet again. sigh… Lynda Carter should most definitely portray her mother, Hippolyta. And developing the characters and relationships on Paradise Island (i.e., the Queen, Artemis, Donna Troy, etc.,) and Greek mythology (i.e., Ares, Circe, Aphrodite, etc.,) along with the characters from Man’s World (i.e., Steve Trevor, Etta Candy and the Woo-Woo Girls, the Cheetah, etc.,) would prove awesome for viewers! And provide her with her iconic accoutrements (i.e., tiara that she also uses as a boomerang and video phone; earrings that can translate any spoken language; bracelets that deflect objects and can create a force field around her) as well as her other magical super powers (i.e., mimic anyone’s voice; the transformation twirl; and the ability to see the good in everyone). And let’s not forget to include her invisible jet/Wonderdome cast of characters.
As for a No-No List, how about the following Don’ts as well:
1. Don’t make her a teenager; make her 2000+ years old. It makes for a richer background and back-story.
2. Don’t make her fly. She’s not Superman. That’s what her cool and unique invisible jet is for.
3. Don’t take away her iconic costume. She wears the American flag and that’s part of her unique appeal.
4. Don’t make her overtly sexy/sexual.
5. Don’t make her too mannish/butch. Allow her to have some curves, just not gratuitous jiggle.
6. Don’t cast well-known actors other than Lynda Carter (for obvious reasons). Allow views the chance to get to know the character as the character and not some actor AS the character. Christopher Reeve and Lynda Carter are great examples of this!
7. Don’t exclude villains from her comics. There are tons of great ones to use (e.g., Circe, Silver Swan, Cheetah, Dr. Poison, Ares, Dr. Psycho, etc.).
8. Don’t forget to include her secret identity. The one thing that most EVERYONE who talks about WW comments on is that FAMOUS Lynda Carter twirl. There’s lots of fun and excitement seeing how she’ll be able to keep her secret in order to protect the ones she loves in Man’s World as well as to be undercover.
9. Don’t overlook the invisible jet/Wonderdome. Lots of creative possibilities and uniquely rich characters to draw upon.
10. Don’t get rid of her high heels. They’re silly in some ways, but she IS a comic book character, and if you look at most comic book characters, they’re costumes really don’t translate into the real world. But that’s part of the fantasy and appeal. It’s not supposed to be real world.
I hadn’t thought of Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, but that is a pretty good idea.
Not sure about Megan’s acting skills but the look is pretty much right…. At least as close as a human can be to a comic character.
KAT VON D AS WONDER WOMAN!!! KAT VON D!!!!
i would say Megan Fox from the transformers, she looks like Lynda Carter for reals!!!
Laura Perpon, ( Donna from “That 70’s Show). She looks great with dark hair.
nadia bjorlin, she is hot, and could fill out the costume.
